The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province to maintain law and order and ensure security during Muharram-ul-Haram. According to the official notification, the restrictions will remain in force from 1st Muharram to 10th Muharram, corresponding to June 17–26, 2026.

The government has stated that only those processions and religious gatherings (Majalis) that have received prior approval will be allowed. No new processions, gatherings, or religious practices will be permitted in order to maintain peace and public order.

The notification further states that the display of weapons, explosive materials, or any other hazardous items at public places is strictly prohibited without authorization from the competent authority. Similarly, sectarian hate speech, provocative slogans, inflammatory statements, comments, or gestures that could incite public emotions will not be allowed.

The Home Department has also banned the construction of temporary bunkers on rooftops along procession routes, as well as the accumulation of bricks, stones, bottles, or other objects that could pose security risks. In addition, spectators will not be allowed to stand on rooftops or shop platforms located along procession routes.

The government has decided to impose a ban on pillion riding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. However, senior citizens, women, and personnel of law enforcement agencies will be exempt from this restriction.

According to the Punjab Home Department, these measures are aimed at ensuring peace, harmony, and religious tolerance during Muharram-ul-Haram. All district administrations and law enforcement agencies have been directed to strictly enforce the orders, while a comprehensive public awareness campaign will also be launched.
