The Punjab government has presented its budget for the fiscal year 2026–27, proposing a 7% increase in salaries for government employees and a 3.5% increase in pensions. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the budget after signing the budget documents.
According to the budget, the Punjab government has proposed significant allocations across various sectors for overall expenditures and development projects. The province’s total budget has been set at Rs 5.131 trillion, while total expenditures are estimated at Rs 3.569 trillion.
Addressing a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the government had made every effort to avoid placing an additional financial burden on the public despite economic challenges. She described the budget as one of hope and public relief, aimed at improving services and facilities for citizens.
The budget proposes an allocation of Rs 750 billion for the education sector and Rs 500 billion for healthcare. Substantial funds have also been recommended for service delivery and ongoing operational expenditures.
According to the budget document, Punjab is expected to receive Rs 4.390 trillion under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, while the provincial revenue target has been set at Rs 1.209 trillion.
The Punjab government has also decided to continue the Laptop Scheme and Honhaar Scholarship Program for students and youth. In addition, a new policy has been introduced to encourage industrial growth and investment in economic zones across the province.
