US media has claimed that an important preliminary understanding has been reached between the United States and Iran, which is being described as a major step toward reducing tensions in the region.
According to the report, the two countries have agreed to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz and implement a 60-day ceasefire. Under the proposed agreement, the ceasefire would apply across all fronts, while negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program would continue during this period.
The reports further state that sanctions relief would not be granted until Iran complies with the agreed conditions. This process would be implemented in phases to ensure confidence-building measures are properly followed.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump also claimed that the documents for a potential agreement with Iran were in their final stages, and that there was a possibility of signing it by the end of this week. According to him, the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened within a week after the agreement.
On the other hand, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has denied these US claims. The ministry said that diplomatic contacts with the United States are ongoing, but no final agreement has been reached yet.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that talks are continuing and some progress has been made on certain points, but Iran will not compromise on its red lines. He added that a final decision has yet to be made and discussions on all matters are ongoing.
